This group of work is a series of fresh, stylized illustrations created for a new jazz ballet set to the music of Prince titled Dance Music Sex Romance. The process begins with my original dance photography then redrawn using India Ink. The drawings are then stylized in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The project also generated promotional items such as an event poster, DVD package and various promotional cards.
Inspiration for this work is Jay T. Jenkins (choreographer and teacher at Steps on Broadway), music by Prince, the dancers, Danny Pelavin's digital class at FIT, the jazz album covers of the 40s and 50s, Erte, David Stone Martin, Rudy Gutierrez, David Downton, Paula Scher and The Big Book of Fashion Illustration.
